A.
Mifsud, owner and founder of HRM, is a herpetologist and
certified
professional wetland
scientist. Mifsud holds a Masters degree in
Environmental
Science from the University of Michigan-Dearborn as well as
degrees
in
Biology, Geography and Environmental
Studies
from Aquinas College.
Mifsud
has set new
standards for community-based volunteer inventory
and
was responsible for the coordination of a rescue effort that saved over
5,000 amphibians and reptiles from a site slated for development. He is
also
founder
and coordinator of the now-annual Herpathon. Mifsud has
worked
with
reptiles and amphibians for over 20 years. He is skilled in
designing
and conducting herpetological surveys and has worked on a variety
of
projects. His work has incorporated studies of imperiled species
including
Blanding's
Turtles, Copper- bellied
Watersnakes,
Eastern Fox Snakes
and
Massasauga
Rattlesnakes.
As part of the
Michigan Herpetological Atlas, Mifsud surveyed
and
mapped
the habitat and distribution of reptiles and amphibians within
over
50 square
miles of the Rouge and Detroit River watersheds in SE
Michigan.
He has
delineated over 50,000 acres of habitat throughout Michigan and
is
very
familiar with Great Lakes ecosystems. In his work with the City
of
Ann Arbor
he has set new standards for community-based
volunteer
inventory
programs and was responsible for the coordination of over
5,000
amphibians
and reptiles. Working with top researchers in Ambystoma
hybrids,
Mifsud
was responsible for the discovery of what may ultimately prove
to be
a hybrid
salamander not previously recorded in
Michigan.
